Let’s talk about it.
PrestaShop version 8 is expected to improve the platform’s software by the end of this year.
It will support a newer version of PHP and have a new admin interface for product addition (beta).
Businesses of every scale would love to upgrade to this advanced PrestaShop version.
The new Back-office product page will be introduced soon. It will be a beta version that only goes live for people who use version 9.0 or later. This new page provides sellers with an improved user experience and performance, especially when dealing with a large number of combinations and increasing inventory. Developers will also find it advantageous to use a Symfony-based page, which is more flexible and provides reusable code.
PrestaShop 8.0 supports versions 8.0 and 8.1 of the PHP programming language. This is important because more than 70% of the code for websites is written in PHP, so it is important to stay up-to-date on the latest developments and speed improvements.
Technology can be updated faster when the terms and version numbers are clear. In the future, passwords will be more secure using a new method. Your customers are advised to choose a more secure password on their screens. For example, if they also enter their last name as the password.
Starting in 2022, the open source project PrestaShop and the company of the same name will be different. The PrestaShop 8 software will not come with the PrestaShop Add-ons marketplace or with commercial modules.
The software will also not be dependent on resources from prestashop.com APIs. This is good news for the neutrality of the project as work on independent development continues.
PrestaShop will continue to provide its products and services. However, it will be done in a way that separates the commercial aspects from the open-source project.
Do not worry. Unlike other companies, that have chosen to stop supporting their open source platforms, PrestaShop will continue to support the open source project and its future products.

The release of PrestaShop version 8.0 will have some effect on the previous versions. All the older versions will be supported with the latest security patch updates for up to 1 year. It means users will have almost a year of time to make the switch to the latest version.
However, this is not as big of a change as it was in the past. Upgrading from 1.7.8 to 8.0 should be less difficult than upgrading from 1.6 to 1.7. Themes created for version 1.7 will work with this new edition of PrestaShop without any problems.
Some modules that work with PrestaShop 1.7.8 should also work with PrestaShop 8, but some of them may need to be updated, especially if they are impacted by code changes or PHP 8 compatibility.
We know you are also as excited for PrestaShop 8.0 as we are. If you have any questions regarding this, feel free to connect with us 🙂
